Rob
Giesbrecht

Coach

Rob Giesbrecht has led the Abbotsford Middle Soccer Academy for the past five years. He also coaches at the Abbotsford Secondary Academy. In addition, in the five years at the helm of the University of the Fraser Valley women’s soccer program, head coach Rob Giesbrecht has overseen an unprecedented run of success, highlighted by two CIS national championship tournament appearances.

Giesbrecht, born and raised in Abbotsford, B.C., played soccer at Trinity Western University (TWU) from 1991 to 1995 while earning his Bachelor of Arts degree.

At the conclusion of his playing career, he earned a second undergraduate degree in Education from the University of British Columbia (1998) and a Master’s degree in Education from Concordia University (Seward, Nebraska) in 2008. He has also completed a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Diploma.

Giesbrecht began his university coaching career at TWU, where he served as women’s soccer assistant coach and was part of the program’s first CIS national championship in 2004.

He was head coach of the women’s soccer team at Concordia for five years (2005-2010) before returning to Abbotsford to take the reins of his hometown Cascades.

In his first season, 2010, Giesbrecht steered the squad to the Canada West title and a bronze medal at the CIS national championship. It was UFV’s first national medal in any sport at the CIS level. He guided the team back to nationals in 2014, following a silver-medal performance in the Canada West playoffs with a fourth-place finish at the CIS tournament in Quebec City.

Rob and his wife Cheryl and their four children reside in Yarrow, B.C.

 

 
 

Tom
Lowndes

Coach

Tom was an academy scholar for professional team Bristol Rovers Football Club in England until he was 18 years old and left to attend College in the US.  Tom attended both Simon Fraser University and Baker University in Kansas City. At Baker University he lead the team to the 2011 NAIA National Tournament “Final Four”, and was an All-Conference selection.

After completing his degree Tom remained at Baker University for one year as an assistant coach for the Men’s and Women’s programs.

Tom is a B National License Coach and is currently head coach with the University of the Fraser Valley Mens soccer program. In 2015 UFV achieved a Bronze Medal in the Canada West Playoffs.

 
 

Niko
Marcina

Coach

Niko is an experienced and passionate soccer coach, as well as a strength and conditioning specialist. He plays for UBC Men's Team, leading them to two National titles; he currently plays in the Vancouver Metro Premier Soccer League. 

Niko has a Bachelor Degree in Human Kinetics, specializing in Health and Fitness. He owns and operates "Perform All Out Soccer Academy," a soccer specific strength and conditioning company and has been the strength and conditionaing specialist for the UBC Men'ts and Women's soccer program, the Whitecaps Women's prorgam and various local soccer clubs. 

He is a CSA National B licensed coach in the process of completing his Master's Degree in Soccer Coaching. Niko currently coaches two BCSPL teams for Surrey United and is assisting with UFV Women's Soccer Program in addition to coaching the Abbotsford Middle School Soccer Academy players.
